As Dante and Virgil encounter the sinners in the Vestibule of Hell, they witness the Opportunists. These sinners are known for their indifference as they chose to chase to their own interests instead of choosing a side in the battle between Heaven and Hell. Think about your own personal lives and consider the concept of those whom might be considered as Opportunists. Are there people like this your classes? Do you know people like this outside of school? Explain why you would consider them like that, according to how Alighieri explains these sinners. At least 5 sentences. |

Some people that I know are opportunists would be my aunt and uncle. They are good at finding opporitunities. But sometimes they do it at the expense of others which relates to Dante's explanation. I consider them opporitunists because of their ability to find opporitunities. It is a bad kind although because they do it without thinking of others

In Canto III, we learn about the Opportunists. They are very well known for chasing their own interests and gaining as many opportunities as possible. I believe this would be someone that frames a person in order to be noticed or placed ahead of another. I do not know anyone that is an opportunist, but I do know that it is an awful quality to have. This is because opportunists only do things that benefit themselves rather than others.

The opportunists were people who didn't choose between Heaven and Hell while they were on Earth. Plenty of people chase opportunities that keep changing just like the opportunists did. For example, people can become so caught up in their job that they can forget what is truly important. They are considered opportunists because they don't try to sin, but they don't choose God either. I don't personally know anyone like this.

In Canto III of Inferno the Opportunists where introduced. These people did not decide between heaven in hell on Earth. They only focus on themselves and making sure everything they want works out. There are people like that now bosses of businesses try to do everything they can to make THEIR company better and make THEM better. They do not care about other peoples businesses just theirs. They take every opportunity they can get to make themselves better.

In Canto 3, we see the opportunists. These people were constantly chasing what they wanted and did not care about anyone else. On earth, these people did not engage in the war between heaven and hell. This is why they are put in the vestible. There are many people that can be considered opportunists in our lives. they are very easy to point out.

As everyone read in Canto III, we encounter our first sinners and how through the Law of Retribution, these sinners' punishments directly correlate to the actions they committed while on earth. These sinners are known as opportunists. Opportunists are people who take advantage of opportunities with only themselves in mind, however, they often seem lost when an opportunity is fulfilled and then motivated by a new opportunity rather than having confidence in a solid direction. Opportunists in our current society are upper class citizens. Those in the upper class, are people who take opportunities without caring about what sort of long-standing affect it could have on others. The way that the upper class citizens act today, resembles how opportunists are described in Dante's Inferno.

Opportunists are people who put themselves before others in order to get what they want. People in today's society can act this way. For example, some involved in business may put down others so that they may be more successful. They chase after goals that are constantly changing. This relates to the opportunists that Dante runs into. This also directly correlates to the punishment that they are given in Hell.

In Canto III, we meet the opportunists. Opportunists are people that take advantage of opportunities with only themselves in mind. In today's society, there are many people who could be categorized as opportunists. For example, paparazzi could be considered opportunists. They take advantage of the celebrities they are taking pictures of. They use these advantages to increase their profits.

Personally, I believe that we encounter opportunists everyday in our lives. These people are the people that we see around us that are always trying to do good for themselves and who don't care about others. As long as they are getting the advantage over other people or even their friends they are content with their life. There are people outside of school that do this too. For example, if people have a job and all they care about is making money, rising to the top, and seizing any opportunities that come their way. According to Alighieri, people that seize constantly changing opportunities and that is why I consider opportunists to be these kind of people.

I think the opportunists around us are those who can simply be classified as selfish. We learned that the opportunists are people who take advantage of opportunities with themselves in mind, and in real life, I try to set myself away from them. However, I am acquainted with others in our school that fall into this category. I think that their mindset surrounds the lack of interest/care involving somebody else, in other words, their concern for only themselves is the majority that makes them an opportunist. Additionally, I think each one of us can resonate with this, but usually only for a short period of time.

Opportunists are people who seize an opportunity when it presents itself. To most opportunists it does not matter who they have to step over to get these opportunities. I would say that my uncle is an opportunist. He played college football and then went to the NFL. When he retired from the NFL a car dealership was offered to him, so he bought it. He know owns the most successful car dealership in New Jersey. Although he did not step over anyone on his way to success I would say my uncle is an opportunist.

In Canto III we met the Opportunists. These are people who did not choose between heaven and hell, and they chased opportunities based on their own interest. We encounter opportunists in our everyday lives. An example is the media. They write stories that benefit themselves, and do not care about if their stories are truthful. All they care about is what is the gossip they are receiving.

There are many people in our school chasing many opportunities. I would not necessarily say they are Opportunists because their opportunities do not put others in danger or at the cost of others. They opportunists because they do not choose between heaven and hell. Opportunists chase banners because they did not choose good or evil.

Opportunists in my life would be people who take every opportunity they can get, without much thinking (or caring) for anyone's interests but their own. Some people that behave this way today are some celebrities. They have virtually endless money, and yet continue to pursue more. They use what they have only for themselves, and seek more opportunities to gain more. Celebrities can also do this for fame. Fame can drive them to take part in something, or to give money somewhere. And while that may not seem like a bad thing to the general public, they are still using their influence for bad.

Opportunists are the people who didn't choose between heaven or hell. They were indifferent about the whole thing. In their life they would chase opportunities at the expense of others. An example of opportunists are people in the news and journalists. They will abuse people and it doesn't even have to be true. They do this to accelerate their own career.

Opportunists defined as people who only care for themselves, are all around us. They didnt chose between heaven and hell so they are n the middle. they were neither good nor bad so they are punished accordingly. Opportunists on earth today could be people such as corrupt politicians or world leaders only looking for themselves. Like those in Dante's book, they too may suffer the same fate if they do not care for others.
Gillian W.

Opportunists can be considered self-absorbed individuals, as they chase their ambitions and chose their own interests over all. They did not choose a side or either Heaven or Hell on earth. Opportunists can be politicians. They are very focused on their own work and less on those around them. Sometimes they can be so ambitious that they can compromise relationships around them.

Opportunists take every opportunity they get to better themselves. They're indifferent abut heaven and hell because nobody can tell if they're real. They don't have much of a reason to pick because they don't know the results of choosing yet. Some opportunists are political figures. They take any opportunity available to pull ahead in races for government. They don't really do it in a bad way; they do it because they want to be leaders and do something that they dream of doing. It might hurt, but that's just how it is.

Everybody knows opportunists. Opportunists are people that take advantage of everything, which can be positive, but in this case it is negative. They are indifferent about heaven and hell. Often people who are politically correct are like this. They deny both heaven and hell.

I believe that anyone can be considered an opportunist. In order to achieve your goals and get ahead in life, you have to take opportunities that may benefit you rather than someone else. Everyone is an opportunist by definition because at one point in everyones life, we put ourselves in front of other people.

An opportunist is someone who takes up every advantage with only themselves in mind. As Dange and Virgil encounter these types of sinners in hell, we can reflect on opportunist characteristics that we witness in everyday life. Often times people may commit this type of sin without even realizing it. I think many people can be considered guilty of this, even if it's not in an extreme context. It is ok to take up opportunities in life, but not to the detriment of others.

I believe the problem with the opportunists is not that they are intentionally hurting others, but the fact that they are so focused on themselves that they don't even realize they are hurting others. I myself do not know anyone who I would consider to be an opportunist. However I know people can act this way at a specific point in their lives. Many people will act selfishly and disregard others feelings for their own benefit. The difference is the opportunists never thinks of others. Comments are closed.
