Based on Canto VI in "Inferno," reflect on the sinners and their punishments that have landed the sinners here. As the Gluttons, how has their desire for food and drink landed them in the Circle 3. Consider our Christianity as we embark on our journey through Lent as well take a look inside ourselves to prepare for the risen Christ. How have you been gluttonous with either food or drink? How often are we chasing after that which we think will fill us, allowing ourselves to be distracted from the One who really satisfies? At least 5 sentences.

Not everyone is a glutton. Some people are able to control their desires to eat or drink easier than other people. However, everyone is chasing something that will complete the empty feeling of their desire. Some people chase popularity, or they chase something that they think will make them happy. The only thing that will truly satisfy us is Christ, and that is what people need to chase after.

In Canto VI, Dante encounters the gluttonous in the Second Circle of Hell. The gluttonous desire far more food and drink than is necessary, while others are starving. I believe that everyone is chasing something in their life. Though it may not be food or drink, we all desire for something we believe we are missing. Some of us are gluttons, and the rest of us are gluttonous about possessions and things like that.

In my opinion, not everyone is a glutton. Some people may show characteristics of being a glutton, but I would not consider them one. People that I would consider a glutton, may desire something in their life other than other people. One might desire food or money, but some might desire good things. Some might desire to become closer with their friends or God.

As we embark on Lent, we try to prepare ourselves for Christ. During this time, we are more aware of how we act and the world around us. I think that at times people can be wasteful and eat and drink more than they need. As long as people are not doing this at an extensive rate, I wouldn't consider them absolutely gluttonous. However, when people are gluttonous, their deep desire for food, drink, etc. gets in the way of their better judgement and they ignore those around them and only worry about themselves.

In Canto VI Dante encounters the gluttonous in hell; those who are prodigal in regards to food while people starve. Not everyone is a glutton, but everyone at times is gluttonous. Sometimes we throw away food because we don't like it, even though there are people is foreign countries that would do anything to eat the scraps we throw away. We, as a country, take things for granted such as our access to food and water. During Lent, we fast as a way to give back to God and show our obedience to Him and His will.

The sinners in Canto VI are in hell because they were constantly gluttonous choosing food or other worldly desires in excess. They are in this particular circle of hell because they chose these things over other people and God. As Catholics, during Lent were are supposed to fast as an offering of discipline to God. We do this to show our faith. During the Lenten season we often become aware of food we waste or things we eat too much of. Lent allows us to reflect on our gluttonous ways and become closer to God.

In canto VI Dante meets the gluttonous. I think that being gluttonous comes in many forms- food and drink being just one of them. Today it is so easy to be gluttonous, espically for those of us who are blessed enough to have not only the things we need to survive, but so much more. The sinners Dante meets ended up in this circle because of their unnatural desire for food and drink. It is important to remember, even though it is not always easy, that there are people who struggle to find food everyday to survive, while we are over here throwing away the things that aren't our "favorite." As we embark on this Lenten journey we need to think about others and what they need rather than ourselves and what we want and desire.

In Canto VI, Dante awakens in the third circle where the Gluttons are. They took advantage of food, drink and worldly pleasures while on earth. On our journey through Lent, I believe people are focused on growing closer to God. I don't think everyone is a glutton, but we take advantage of what we have. A lot of times people will throw out food and waste it, while there are families starving in other countries and in our own country as well.

As Daunte enters the second circle of Hell he meets the gluttonous. These people desire far more food and drink than others. I think that some people do portray traits that gluttonous do, although I don't think that there are a lot of people that are 100% gluttonous. We may desire a food or a drink when we might have not had it in a while, but we also at times are content with what we have. This is the same with God. At times we are longing for something to fill an empty space, not thinking of God or believing that there is something else that would complete us more. While other times, we have full belief and trust in God to keep us content with our lives, only wanting him.

In canto VI, Dante encounters the gluttons. The reason these people are here is because they desired much food and drinks then everyone else. However I don't believe everyone is a glutton, because there are some people out there that constantly give more then they receive. I personally have been gluttonous with food and rink by wasting food and even buying to much food which cold be given to people who truly need it. Many people though do chase after things that fill us but we need to chase after the one person who satisfies us, God.

We all have moments in our lives where we can be considered a glutton. Throughout life, we are presented with many objects that we see as good, and the devil diffuses greed into us. This greed makes us always want more and more. However, we must direct our hunger and thirst to the source of our very being- God. It is wrong to overindulge in anything, except in our love for God. When we overindulge or act as a glutton for worldly objects, we are only hurting ourselves, others, and most importantly- God.

In our high school lives, I feel we are not gluttons. However, I feel like we can sometimes desire to get perfect grades or do well in sports that we kind of become like gluttons. In these times, we only desire to achieve the specific goal and often become distracted from what's truly important. I think we believe that getting an A or being the best on our team will fill us and make us truly happy. It even sometimes gets to the point that, like the gluttons Dante encounters, we forget about the One who satisfies

Many of the gluttons put in circle three accomplished very little with their lives, especially Ciacco of Florence. He was unable to make anything of himself in a city as affluent as Florence. This was the center of new ideas and thinking during the Renaissance, but he could not contribute to it. This is the same with many people without strong morals, but we must overcome these temptations throughout lent. Especially with food, we give up things and make a special effort to repent during this time of preparation for Jesus. 2/10/2016 04:07:42 am
As humans, everyone is working towards something. Everyone has a goal that they were think will help keep them on the right path. Sadly enough, this right path is generally not the path to God, but the path to earthly success. We often come obsessed with achieving greatness on earth that we forget about the man upstairs that made it all possible. Through Lent, Christians are able to focus more and God, and avoid sinning like the gluttons.

I believe that not everyone is a glutton. Many can have characteristics of a glutton, they can consume to much and not really be thinking about the sin that they are committing. Sadly people these days don't know when to stop. Most of us take advantage of the gifts that God has given us. A lot of the times glutton can come in different ways, the devil comes to us with a smile and more often times than not we give into it. but this time of year we as Christians are able to restore our faith, we can sacrifice something for God.

In Canto VI, Dante encounters the gluttonous in the Second Circle of Hell. They want more food and drink than is needed. All people are chasing a desire in their life. It may not be food or drink, but we all hunt for frivolous things we think are missing. We are all gluttons in someway.

In Canto VI, Dante encounters the the gluttons, the ones who seek and desire food and drink more then needed. Gluttony could came in many other forms besides seeking food and drink gluttony could be also described as greedy and unwilling to sacrifice something for the greater good. These sinners located in this circle of Hell were greedy and only thought of themselves while on earth. This is why they were placed in this circle of Hell.

Every person has points throughout their lives where they can be gluttonous. When people let their gluttonous desires take over, they often do not even realize until after they already done the deed that what they have done was wrong. These moments are when people desire for worldly items such as food and drink to the point of nearly harming either themselves or something around them. In most people, the greed doesn't completely take them over and they are able to see that what they are doing is wrong. However, some people cannot control themselves and their gluttonous desires take their lives over, and they live their lives as gluttons

In Canto VI, Dante and Virgil enter Circle 3 where the gluttons reside. As Lent begins, we must challenge ourselves to abstain from indulgences such as food. Sometimes anyone can act like a glutton in a sense that we may put food before others or before the importance of Lent. Falling for the temptation of gluttony can lead us astray from our duties as Catholics. Putting food before other people can lead people to an uncontroölable life full of sin. Comments are closed.
