As Dante and Virgil encounter the sinners in the Vestibule of Hell, they witness the Opportunists. These sinners are known for their indifference as they chose to chase to their own interests instead of choosing a side in the battle between Heaven and Hell. Think about your own personal lives and consider the concept of those whom might be considered as Opportunists. Are there people like this your classes? Do you know people like this outside of school? Explain why you would consider them like that, according to how Alighieri explains these sinners. At least 5 sentences. |

In Canto III we talk about opportunists which are people that only think for themselves, and don't care for others. In our lives we experience this in different ways. I feel as if we have major and minor opportunists, because everyone has there moments in life. On the other hand people may do it all the time, and only do what benefits themselves. I know one family from experience they have a big house with more than you can imagine, and during this summer there house was under construction. They weren't happy with there house and said it wasn't big enough. It blew my mind that some people can be so selfish, and only think about themselves that don't even think for a second about others that are suffering in our world today.

I agree that opportunists are selfish but I disagree that they don't care for others. I think in some ways they care for those who are close or matter to them in some way.

Canto III is the first time in Dante's Inferno that Dante himself enters hell. Along with him is Dante's favorite poet of all time, Virgil. Dante and Virgil first enter a place called the Vestibule. The Vestibule is home to a group of dead souls named the Opportunists. The opportunists are souls who care only for themselves, not caring about anything else. I don't know any obvious people who can be considered an opportunists, but a group that I believe could be given this title are pro athletes. There are some pro athletes who regularly give back to their communities, but for the most part pro athletes take advantage of their opportunities and benefit themselves rather than others.

Canto III starts the beginning of Dante's journey. He starts off in the strong with confidence and energy but as he begins the horrors he sees are almost too much to handle. First he encounters the opportunists. Those who have selfishly gone through life without remorse and done whatever they had to, to get what they want no matter the outcome. Personally I think in one way or another everyone is an opportunists at one point or another. There are those who only do what is necessary and those who take it too far and are beyond selfish and have no self control when it come to getting what they want. The most common of these people are those who are wealthy and have it all but its still not enough. They are the ones who think that they need more and enough is never enough for them. They keep seeking happiness in money and things instead of finding it in themselves and in God. I'd say that they take advantage of everything and everyone as long as the outcome benefits them.

I agree with Domi, everyone seeks more than what they have. People look for happiness in objects that simply won't bring permanent hapiness

Canto III is the beginning of Dantes journey through hell. In the beginning of the canto Dante is filled with confidence until he comes across the opportunists. The opportunists are really selfish and only care about themselves. Selfish people are the people who have alot but think they need more. They dont think they have enough. Yet there are people in this world that cant even afford food, water and shelter. Selfish people dont even care about the poor. They dont have good social lives because they only care about themselves and they dont even care about other people.

In dantes inferno Dante and Virgil come into the vestibule of hell. The people that are in this particular place in hell are opportunists. I think there are people like this in my classes. Opportunists are people that chase after every opportunity they see that benefit themselves. I know a lot of selfish people that only think of their own selves.

in real life there is lots of opportunists and these people are the worst kind. lots of people say they are doing something for the good of the people and everything will e better when they get to power. but 9 times out of 10 the people that have the honor of receiving power will mess it up even more. this is why we have the systems in place that we have to keep the power to the people.

Opportunists are people who jump at every chance they get to benefit themselves. They are normally self centered. There are many successful people who are opportunists. Examples of them are entrepreneurs, leaders of countries, dictators, celebrities, and people who will do whatever they can to get to the top.

In canto III, we talk about opportunists and how they came to be in hell. They were people who were neither for heaven or hell, and who only did things that benefit themselves. I personally don't feel like an opportunist, but I do know people like this.

I know so many people in my classes and outside of school that are opportunists. They only think about themselves and their own lives. However there are a few people that have concern for others. My point is there are plenty of opportunists in the world. However we have to deal with them.

In Canto III, Dante meets opportunists. Opportunists are people who can't commit to something. I would view agonistics as opportunists. Agnostics are people who neither believe or disbelieve in God. They stay neutral when it comes to religion and refuse to believe either way. These people exist in the world although I don't personally know any. I view these people as weak because they do not have any strong beliefs. Comments are closed.
